Don't laugh, please. Anyone who knows me knows I am not crafty by nature.
Despite that fact, I've been surfing some little crafty waves in my life. I would just love to add pictures to this post, but alas, my camera just stopped working the other day. No reason. I didn't drop it or anything. It just randomly freaked out. Stupid thing.
It's strange but I've been "seeing" the possibilities in things. I was at a craft store getting some supplies for this project I did with my kids and I saw this shelf on sale....
nevermind.
That was extremely boring and I don't want to write about it anymore.
I just want to write something and I want it to be good. That was not it. Neither is this though. None of this is good writing, but I'm writing something and I'll take it.
I was at Lowe's this evening and I asked one of the workers where something was. She told me and then walked with me for part of the way. She smelled so darned good. I just kept sniffing the air around her. She stopped and helped somebody else and I looked for my items. When I finished getting what I needed, I walked past her again and stopped.
"Can I ask you a strange question?" I inquired of the woman.
She looked dubious. "Sure..." she said. Her tone was anything but sure.
I tried to look reassuring. "Do you wear perfume?"
That was not the question she was expecting to hear. A myriad of emotions flew across her features in the blink of an eye. She laughed nervously. "Yes, I do!"
"What kind is it?" I responded before she asked me if I was a psycho. "What's the name?"
"Skin Musk" she replied and laughed.
I figured I owed her some sort of explanation at this point. I told her how she smelled so darned good and I just kept wondering what it was I was smelling. She was shocked and told me that she was worried because she'd been sweating a lot and she was sure she was just plain stinky. I reassured her that she didn't stink at all, and, in fact, smelled heavenly and asked her where I could purchase this lovely scent.
"Walgreens," she informed me. "Just down the street."
Guess where I stopped on the way home? And guess what only cost me $6.99? I hope it smells as good on me as it does on her. I'll keep you posted. Or not. We'll see.
All in all it was an interesting trip to Lowe's. And, all in all, this turned into a strange post that has nothing to do with the title.

Ella
I've been having a wardrobe problem, as, I'm sure, anyone who has ever been pregnant can relate to. It's been getting better as I continue to grow abdominally. I can now hold up a few pairs of maternity pants without them falling off. But I have whined a little bit to my friend Rebby about this problem. It would appear that I only want to wear pajamas because they are comfy.
The other night, after a bit of whining about my clothes and my dreams of being in my pajamas, Rebby sent me home with a very comfy pair of yoga-ish pants and a shirt that matches. Today, I was still wearing my PJs when someone came to the door. This was not the hour one should still be in PJs so I quickly ran and threw on the borrowed comfy clothes from Rebby. I visited with my visitor for a while and then went to get Ella from school.
Ella climbed in the car and, as she sat down, I heard her little nose sniffing. She sat there testing the air for a few seconds as I was backing out of my parking spot. After a those few sniffs she asked me, "Did Grace and Olivia come over today?"
"No," I replied. "Why do you ask?"
"Because it smells like their house in our car," she replied.
I laughed out loud and told her to smell my clothes. Grace and Olivia are Rebby's two younger daughters.
"Why do you smell like Rebby's house, Mom?" she asked. "Did you go over there today?"
"No, these are Rebby's clothes," I replied. "She let me borrow them."
Rebby's clothes, by the way, smell like fresh laundry... this is a good smell.
Her little sniffer was satiated and she let the conversation drop. Maybe I could hire her out as a hound dog part-time?

Phone, Sweet Phone
My mom smells good. I'm not sure what the magic combination is... perfume, makeup, bath soap, farm house and acreage with a stiff breeze blowing through it? I haven't figured it out, but she carries around on her person one of my three favorite smells on this green earth. On Tuesday, I had an errand to run and she popped over to watch my kids for just a half an hour. I returned and she left. End of story. Or so I thought.
The next morning I was sitting at my computer and I picked up the phone to call someone. As I brought the phone to my face, my senses were assailed with that sweet scent that is my mother. I was not immediately and consciously aware of her scent that first time I picked up the phone. As the day wore on and I made or answered more phone calls I would inhale deeply and think of my mom. I realized that the phone smelled like her. I thought this was strange. She was only here for a few minutes. Why would she come to my dungeon, uhhh basement and talk on my dumb, non-cordless phone?

I asked her later on if she was on the phone in the basement while she was here. Indeed she was. She came down to check something online and the phone rang. She was on it for all of one minute.
"Why do you ask", she said. I told her that my phone smells like her. She laughed out loud.
It's been two days now and her lovely scent still lingers when I say 'hello'. It makes me smile, and I feel privileged to be the daughter of such an amazing woman who wears a scent as sweet as she.
