Show Your True Colors

Take this test!

You're green, the color of growth and vigor. Good-hearted and giving, you have a knack for finding and bringing out the best in people. Green is the most down-to-earth color in the spectrum — reliable and trustworthy. People know they can count on you to be around in times of need, since your concern for people is genuine and sincere. You take pride in being a good friend. For you, success is measured in terms of personal achievement and growth, not by status or position. Rare as emeralds, greens are wonderful, natural people. It truly is your color!

Alone With You

Washed in white,
Your placid face,
Your warm smile,
Flash across my vision
As I stumble on toward a state of bliss
I know can only exist when I close my eyes.

Alone with you.

This is a poem I wrote when I was in high school. Actually, this is the first poem that I wrote that was for me and not for some assignment in school. It's just been on my mind, so I thought I'd share.

Laundry Piles Pay

So, I'm folding a mountain of laundry. And I mean MOUNTAIN. Perhaps perhaps Everest might be a stretch... (My sister Sassy gets the Everest award!) but definitely in the Mount McKinley range... (no pun intended. Really... Mac's laundry pile was the smallest of all the game!)

Anyway... I'm folding away. Off and on ALL DAY, when I finally get to my basket. *here's a little side bar... Dustin's clothes are my favorite to fold and put away, next comes towels, then Mac's, then Ella's, then Rohan's, and lastly, mine. Yes, my clothes are my least favorite to fold and put away. Don't ask me why, cuz I don't know. That's just the way it is.* OK, sidebar done... So, I came to the last pair of pants in my basket... picked them up and (literally) said to myself, " Oh, cool! I forgot about those pants!" *side bar #2- I haven't folded my whole basket in a long, long time... I just pick clothes off the top!*
So I'm folding and the pockets were all wrinkled so I was straightening them, felt something in there, and Voila! 40 bucks grew in my pocket in the bottom of the laundry basket!!!

So, I'm pretty sure that I only had loose change in those pockets, so I think that it's one of those laundry baskets that my financial planner was trying to get me to buy. You know the kind... one of those yellow baskets that, in exchange for keeping the money on deposit for the agreed-on term, these laundry baskets usually grant higher interest rates than they do on pockets from which money may be found, in pockets with frequent folders, although this may not be the case in an inverted yield curve situation. Fixed rates are common, but some laundry baskets offer various forms of variable rates depending on how often one folds and puts away. Sometimes, baskets that are indexed to the stock market, the bond market, or other indices are introduced with higher yielding interest rates...
Anyway, I inherited it from my grandma. (thanks, Grandma!) I bet if the rest of the family knew what kind of basket it was, they might have thumb wrestled me for it!

I knew there was a reason I never fold my clothes! :P Yay!

P.S. If anyone who reads this speaks financial-eez, please don't leave a comment telling me what a retard I am, cuz I am retarded on purpose! :)

Good Ol' Girl Time

We're happy to announce that today is Melissa Denning's Birthday, and so we'd like to sing her a little tribute!
Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear Melissa!!! Happy Birthday to you!

I know you're humming the tune in your head... now picture that over the Wal-Mart intercom while you're shopping for cereal and toilet paper! Yes, last night we kidnapped my friend Melissa for her birthday and drove around thrill-a-minute Idaho Falls making stops all over, complete with cue cards and a soundtrack (sort of... if the tech-ey could figure out how the heck to get the files from the MP3 player to a CD... although, to her credit, she only had 30 minutes and it wasn't her MP3 player) to clue the birthday girl in to where we were going! Emilee and I had a riotous time coming up with this hare-brained scheme. We laughed for days as we, cohorts, made up cheesy rhymes and thought of songs to accompany the evening. First, we (ok, Emilee) dressed her up like a cheerleader princess, complete with pink feather Boa. Then, we (Devon, Emilee, Melissa and I) went to Jamba juice while singing Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! Then off to Robert's craft store and got her 3 helium balloons that we tied to her wrist. Then to Wal-Mart where we made her ride in a wheelchair (I didn't realize until then that Melissa was capable of embarrassment!) and bought her some luscious chapstick. Then, embarrassment was taken to a whole new level, as Emilee broadcast over the intercom that it was Melissa's birthday, and then Emilee and I proceeded to sing the Happy Birthday song for her... and Emilee almost peed her pants laughing! It was incredible in its hilarity. We carried on going to several other places, purchasing a little something at each stop... with a cute little dorky message and song for each stop. (dorky, ie: "Life would stink if you weren't our friend" and we went and got a perfume sample at Target, singing Smells Like Teen Spirit as we drove there.) We ended the evening with Cheesecake at Johnny Carinos. ("We know we sound Cheesy, but if you weren't our friend, it wouldn't be easy, we might be queasy" and accompanied by Johnny B Good!) It was great fun and a night not soon forgotten. Thanks girls!

Square Pegs, Round Holes

She said, I feel so unsettled.
It has nothing to do with our stuff.
Just a feeling.
It's just not a good fit.
Does that make sense?

Yeah, it makes sense...
It's like a shirt too short that you constantly tug.
Like thinking you cleaned but it's just under the rug.
It's like Jr. High - feeling like a lost soul,
Like tryin' to fit square pegs in round holes.
Just doesn't fit.

She said, It's more than just stuff
and boxes everywhere.
"You mean your house?"
No, I guess right now
life isn't a good fit.
Like I'm waiting for something.
Watching out the window
Every time a car passes.

Yeah, that makes sense....
It's like the rain falling down when the sun is smiling.
Like oil and water, you just keep on trying.
It's like you've got the right piece but working on the wrong puzzle.
Like a fish on the sand gettin' comfortable.
Just doesn't fit.

Square pegs and round holes...
Just don't fit.

Writing Frenzy

So... my last two posts have been poems. I realized that two poems hardly qualify as a frenzy, but my brain is in a frenzy. All I want to do is write something. Poems, stories, books, music, lyrics... I just, apparently, need to feed some creativity in myself. I sat for a long time tonight thinking I should blog about something, but, all I could think of is a poem that's been rattling around in my brain and anxiously waiting to come out since Saturday. So, that's what I did. I just thought a little explanation might be nice. Life is interesting. Always.

Beside Herself

She stands alone on cold concrete
Eyes locked on gray flecks of stasis.
Passion and purpose swirl around her like the whispers of a dying storm...
Only white noise. The kind you can fall asleep to.

Her back turned, she blindly cradles indifference with apathetic arms.

Time passes... moves with the dreaming child.

Flickers pull at her attention. Words tug at her stupor.
She grapples her Wraith, begging him to hold the foreground.

Flash. Distractions are Eclipsed.

Her eyes dart and indifference is jolted like a still heart under paddles.
One glimpse is enough to see her frostbitten eyes, her cement feet, her stone shoulders, her listless arms with back turned... standing beside herself.

Snow day... a little late!

So, I'm noticing a pattern here.... every two weeks or so, I blog something. It's about that time! I forgot that in December I took these super cute pictures on a snow day! How can you resist those red faces!! Do you remember when it was fun to eat snow? That used to be fun! (and still is when the mood is right, I suppose!) Then to sit by the heater when it's all over and get warm... oh! I miss being a kid.

"O"

We're eating breakfast, just Rohan and I. I am reading scrips, and Rohan is just sitting quietly not saying much. We're just enjoying each other. Conversation ensues. It goes like this:
R: Mama?
C: Yes?
R: Mama?
C: Yes, Roh Roh?
R: I not Woh Woh.
C: You're not?
R: No I not.
C: Who are you, then?
R: Mama?
C: Yes, Rohan?
R: I not Wohan.
C: Who are you, then, if you're not Rohan? Do you have a different name?
R: Ya.
C: What's your name?
(Pregnant pause... Rohan is thinking of what his name is)
R: "O"
C: "O?"
R: Ya, "O".
C: You're name is "O" now?
R: Ya, I'ne "O", Mommy.
C: Ok, "O".
We continue eating. Rohan munches his cereal, content with his new name, while I stifle a laugh and enjoy reaping the benefits of motherhood.

Christmas Madness!

I can't believe Christmas has come and gone already. Life is moving too fast. We had a fun holiday! We all stayed up way too late Christmas Eve... kids til 11:00, Dad til 1:00(ish) and Mom until 3:00! Lucky for us our kids didn't wake until 8:00, except for Rohan who we woke up at 8:00 with the others, but he was a total grump and didn't "get it". Finally at about 8:30 or 8:45 he woke up enough and realized that this was all very fun! (I think the ripping of paper was what got him) They were thrilled with their presents... Ella got to have fuzzy velvet posters which could have been all she got and she would have been happy. Mac got a wallet... which was thrilling for him... and a book and an RC helicopter which broke on day one (mom's glued it, but it's already come unglued). Rohan got cars and a Fisher-Price car garage and a Spiderman toy. The family got a Wii which Mac literally fell over when he saw. Someday maybe I can figure out how to upload the video of that one on here... it's pretty funny. Dustin got a ShopVac and some other stuff that I won't mention... (it has to do with making hats for everyone in my family!) It was a great day of family togetherness which is the most important part of all. And to make it all the more special... Christmas Eve blanketed us with about 10 inches of snow which was fabulous! Very fun! For some strange reason, I didn't take one picture. I did take video, but no snapshots. Weird, huh?
